The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained Adamu Haruna, the principal of Government Junior Day Secondary School (GDJSS) in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, in connection with allegations of vandalism and the unauthorized sale of school assets.
The principal is accused of selling items belonging to the Universal Basic Education (UBE) scheme.
This arrest was initiated after local residents stopped a tricycle operator named Mohammed Abdullahi, aged 43, who was found transporting a range of vandalized items, including metal window frames and furniture.
According to reports, Adamu Haruna allegedly sold these items to an individual referred to as Imranah, in collaboration with an accomplice named Mada, who remains at large.
The tricycle operator has since been transferred to the NSCDC office in Potiskum for further investigation.
NSCDC Public Relations Officer, SC Bala Garba, confirmed that initial findings have implicated the principal in the unlawful sale of the items, stating, "It was found during the inquiry that the principal sold the items to buyers who then employed the tricycle rider for transportation."
Garba also mentioned that both suspects, along with the recovered items, are currently in custody and will face legal proceedings once the investigations are concluded.
A local resident, Ali Usman, expressed his disappointment regarding the incident, calling for the state government to ensure justice is achieved.
