Professor Attahiru Jega's Wife Passes Away

Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, the wife of former INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega, has died. Her funeral prayer is scheduled for Sunday, April 5, 2026, after the Zuhr prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja.

Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, the spouse of the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has passed away.

The family released a statement on Sunday, April 5, 2026, confirming her death. They also announced that her burial prayer, known as Janaiza, would be held at the National Mosque in Abuja immediately following the Zuhr prayer, scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Professor Jega currently holds significant positions, including Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee (PLRIC), Special Adviser to the President on Livestock Development, and serves as the Pro- Chancellor for both Nasarawa State University and Usman Danfodio University.

The late Hajiya Hadiza Jega was recognised for her strong commitment to educational advancement and community development initiatives, particularly in the northern regions of Nigeria.

The family has requested prayers for her soul to be granted eternal peace in paradise and has appealed to friends, associates, and well-wishers to offer them support and prayers during this period of grief.

Bayero University in Kano, where Professor Jega previously served as Vice Chancellor, also extended its condolences upon learning of her passing.

A statement from the university conveyed: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of the wife of our former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Attahiru Jega, OFR.”

It continued, “Her Janazah will be held immediately after Zuhr prayer at the National Mosque, Abuja, today Sunday, 5th April 2026.

May Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings. May He also grant the family the strength and patience to bear this loss. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
