Youths in the Swali community within Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have staged a demonstration in response to the killing of Clever Charles Abadi, a student at Ekowe Polytechnic.

Abadi, who hailed from the Ekowe community, was reportedly fatally beaten at the Swali market.

During the protest, demonstrators blocked roads and markets in Swali, brandishing placards and chanting slogans demanding justice for the victim.

The protesters urged authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.

Bayelsa State Police Command's spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident on Thursday, January 22, 2026, announcing that four individuals have been taken into custody concerning Abadi's death.

The arrested suspects were identified as Musa Abdullahi, James Peter, Godbless Joel, and Peremobowei Perepuighegha.

The PPRO advised the public against spreading unfounded rumors, especially claims suggesting that the killing was carried out by individuals from the northern region, and encouraged residents to verify information with the police before making any public declarations.
