Qatar has firmly rejected Iran's explanation concerning recent missile launches, asserting that evidence demonstrates the strikes targeted civilian areas as well as crucial infrastructure within its borders.
This position was communicated during a conversation between Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister.
According to a statement released by the Qatar News Agency, Araghchi maintained that the missile strikes were aimed at American interests and were not intended to harm the State of Qatar.
Nevertheless, Sheikh Al Thani categorically denied this assertion, highlighting that the available evidence suggests the strikes affected civilian neighborhoods and residential locales in Qatar.
He pointed out that some missiles fell near Hamad International Airport and other sensitive sites.
The Prime Minister further alerted that these attacks posed a threat to key infrastructure and industrial facilities, including those associated with the nation’s liquefied natural gas production sector—an essential part of Qatar’s economy and a significant contributor to global energy supply.
Labeling the event as a serious escalation, Al Thani stated that these strikes clearly infringe upon Qatar’s sovereignty and represent a violation of international law.
He emphasized that actions that jeopardize civilian lives and critical facilities cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The leader reiterated Doha's dedication to maintaining regional stability through diplomatic means but insisted that threats to the nation's territorial integrity would be met with grave seriousness.
This exchange signifies escalating tensions between Tehran and various Gulf nations amid a broader crisis in the Middle East.
Analysts caution that the ongoing situation could lead to wider regional consequences if diplomatic interventions do not succeed in quelling the conflict.
