Released Ondo Couple After Paying N5 Million Ransom

A couple abducted in Akure North, Ondo State, has been freed after four days in captivity, following the payment of a N5 million ransom that was significantly reduced from an initial demand of N40 million.

A couple who were kidnapped last Friday in the Ilu-Abo community located in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have regained their freedom after a ransom of N5 million was paid.

The victims, identified as Mr. Jamiu Olawale and his wife, were taken hostage on Friday night when gunmen invaded their home shortly after their return from the market.

They were held for four days before being released by their captors on Tuesday evening.

A family relative, who preferred to remain unnamed, confirmed their release, stating that a ransom was paid to ensure their return.

According to the source, “Jamiu and his wife were freed by their abductors on Tuesday night and have since returned to their family.”

Reports indicate that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N40 million but later negotiated down to N12 million, ultimately agreeing to accept N5 million.

This incident has raised concerns among the residents of Ilu-Abo and nearby communities within Akure North Local Government Area, where recent reports of kidnapping and armed violence have increased.

Police authorities had previously verified the incident and announced the dispatch of tactical teams to search the surrounding forests as part of efforts to recover the victims.
