First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has stated that Nigeria is receiving global attention for its initiatives aimed at addressing insecurity and revitalizing the economy, despite ongoing local challenges.

These comments were made during an appearance on Fox News while she was visiting the United States.

Her remarks came in the wake of a personal acknowledgment from U.S. President Donald Trump at the 74th U.S. National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington.

She described the recognition as "unexpected but encouraging."

When asked about potential future U.S. military actions in Nigeria, Remi Tinubu mentioned that the Nigerian government is actively cooperating with the U.S. to mitigate security threats.

She characterized the U.S. involvement in Nigeria's security situation as "a blessing."

“Who would have envisioned that President Trump would acknowledge me?” she expressed.

“I am gaining global recognition for these efforts, and that is what life is all about. Good things often emerge from difficult beginnings.

“We have their attention and are optimistic that it will lead to positive outcomes for both the U.S. and Nigeria,” noted the First Lady.

Regarding allegations of Christian genocide, she stated that the Nigerian government has worked to inform U.S. officials about the realities on the ground.

“We know the situation in Nigeria, and as we approach elections, narratives are often manipulated to influence external perceptions,” she added.

She highlighted that the government has inherited significant economic troubles.

“This is the first Nigerian government to phase out fuel subsidies. Previously we were oil producers without refining capabilities. Now, Nigeria has started refining its products and is no longer reliant on fuel imports. Our exchange rates are stabilizing, the nation is advancing, and we are addressing insecurity,” she elaborated.

Additionally, she mentioned that President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in response to security issues linked to the Christian genocide discourse.

“We are aware of global concerns and remain committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens. Nigeria promotes religious freedom as enshrined in our constitution. We aim to present our nation as a stable environment for investors,” she added.

Remi Tinubu concluded by emphasizing that the administration is focused on finding solutions rather than assigning blame.

“We are not inclined to point fingers at former administrations. Throughout Nigeria's economic boom, insufficient investments were made. It is essential now to collaborate with countries that genuinely support Nigeria in addressing our security challenges,” she stated.
