In a significant political move, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Remo Division of Ogun East Senatorial District have unanimously backed the incumbent Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, as their candidate for the upcoming 2027 Senate elections.

This endorsement came during a well-attended meeting of party officials held on Tuesday, where various stakeholders within the division encouraged Abiodun to contest for the Ogun East Senatorial seat.

The motion to endorse the governor was put forward by Mr. Muri Awolaja, a prominent leader from the Sagamu Local Government Area. He highlighted Governor Abiodun's accomplishments, asserting that he is a capable and esteemed representative from Remoland and Ogun East, asserting his qualifications for the National Assembly. Dapo Odunsi, a former Chairperson of the Remo North Local Government Area, seconded Awolaja's proposal.

In a show of support, local council chairpersons from the area, including Muyiwa Sodade of Remo North and Jamiu Asimi of Ikenne Local Government, urged the governor to answer the call from the people for his candidacy.

Asimi expressed confidence, stating, "We are at the grassroots and can affirm that the people of Remoland and indeed Ogun East desire your representation in the Senate starting from 2027. This reflects our gratitude for the exceptional work you have accomplished as governor."

The formal endorsement was announced publicly by Mr. Kola Ogunjobi, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), who was flanked by prominent APC figures such as Ogun East APC Chairperson Mr. Adeleke Adedoyin; apex leader Otunba Dapo Osho; Hon Sikiru Awosipe; Commissioner for Environment Ola Oresanya; Special Adviser on Women Affairs Mrs. Ayotunde Lawal; SUBEB Chairperson Olalekan Ifede; and various other significant party members.

Ogunjobi indicated that the consensus to endorse Abiodun was reached after thorough discussions on the condition of the party and a careful evaluation of the governor’s administration. "Governor Dapo Abiodun’s performance has not only met but surpassed expectations, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, education, security, housing, and social welfare, making him the optimal candidate for representing Ogun East in the Senate," he remarked.

He highlighted that under Governor Abiodun's tenure, over 1,600 kilometers of roads have been constructed, the Gateway International Airport has been completed, and reforms attracting more than 70 percent of Nigeria’s new manufacturing firms to Ogun State have been implemented.

Mr. Ogunjobi emphasized, "If he has achieved this much as governor, bringing him to represent Ogun East will yield even greater benefits for Remoland and the entire district."

Party officials from three local government areas were present and expressed their dedication to grassroots support, assuring full mobilization should the governor choose to declare his candidacy. They emphasized their pride in Abiodun's accomplishments and committed to leading the movement for his nomination as the APC candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District in 2027.
