Sturla Holm Laegreid, a Norwegian biathlete, is currently in the spotlight after his former girlfriend shared her response to his public admission of cheating during a televised interview at the Winter Olympics.
Earlier this week, Laegreid made headlines when, after securing a medal, he revealed in a post-race discussion that he had been unfaithful.
“I made the biggest mistake of my life and was unfaithful, and I told her about it a week ago,” he stated. “This has been the worst week of my life.” His ex-girlfriend, who chose to remain unnamed, subsequently spoke with Norwegian media outlet VG, addressing the matter publicly for the first time.
Before discussing the personal issues, she congratulated Laegreid and his teammate, Johan-Olav Bothn, on winning bronze. However, she emphasized that forgiveness would not come easily.
“It’s hard to forgive,” she told VG, “Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world. I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact, and he knows my feelings on the matter.” She also expressed gratitude for the support she has received.
“I am thankful to my friends and family who have stood by me during this time, as well as to everyone else who has thought about me and empathized without knowing who I am,” she added. Laegreid has informed VG that he will not comment further on her statements.
