The rift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has intensified following a confrontation between rival factions loyal to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje regarding party leadership.

The contention reached new heights when Mutari Ishaq, a party leader aligned with the Ganduje camp in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area, was reported to have been ousted by a group of party stakeholders.

A recent stakeholders’ meeting, which included representatives from the 13 wards in the local government and other significant party figures, allegedly resulted in a unanimous decision to expel Ishaq from the party.

Originally convened on Sunday with the goal of promoting unity and reinforcing solidarity between the Ganduje faction and the Barau-aligned group, the meeting became contentious when both sides were unable to agree on a shared negotiation approach, leading them to conduct separate discussions in different locations.

The Ganduje faction reportedly engaged in talks with party leaders such as the APC Chairman of Kano Municipal, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Mai Fata Sharada, along with Muntari Ishaq Yakasai, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, Engr. Sagir Koki, Hon. Salim Hashim Gwangwazo, Nura Hussain, Hon. Nabil Sarki Daneji, Hon. Ibrahim Kankarofi, and Hon. Kabiru Labour.

In contrast, members loyal to Barau Jibrin convened a separate meeting at the Sultanate Suite, led by Hon. Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo, Malam Ibrahim Kankarofi, Hon. Fa’izu Alfindiki, Hon. Dan Bello, Alhaji Hamza Darma, and Barrister Faruk Iya Sambo.

Additionally, reports indicated that supporters of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sided with the Ganduje faction during discussions that focused on strategies and resolutions concerning the future of the party.

The Kano Municipal Local Government Area, known for its large voter demographic, has increasingly become a critical zone for political control as the upcoming elections approach.
