Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has conveyed his deep condolences following the demise of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who served as the representative for the Rivers South East Senatorial District.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor hailed Mpigi as a brother and a dedicated politician, recognizing him as a prominent figure in Rivers State. Fubara noted that the late senator's passing occurred at a crucial juncture when his contributions were still essential for the region's wellbeing.
"He departed at a moment when his vast experience and dedication to public service were still necessary for fostering the development of Rivers State," the governor remarked, offering prayers for the eternal repose of the deceased.
Fubara extended his sympathies to Mpigi’s family, the citizens of Rivers South East Senatorial District, and members of the Senate, encouraging them to find solace in the contributions Mpigi made during his lifetime.
Senator Mpigi passed away at the age of 64. At the time of his death, he held the position of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
Throughout the 9th Assembly, he also led a joint Senate Committee tasked with addressing the issue of crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
