Rory McIlroy started his year positively with an impressive five-under par 66, earning himself a narrow one-shot lead at the conclusion of the first round of the Dubai Invitational held on Thursday.
The current Masters titleholder registered seven birdies, successfully positioning himself ahead of David Puig from Spain and Scott Connor Syme on the leaderboard.
McIlroy is looking to achieve his eighth title as a professional in Dubai, following a successful history that includes four victories at the Dubai Desert Classic and three wins at the European Tour’s Tour Championship.
The Northern Irish golfer demonstrated remarkable skill, netting six birdies on the back nine after he commenced his game from the 10th hole, eventually working his way through to the clubhouse effectively.
