Roy Keane, a prominent figure in Manchester United's history, has expressed that Michael Carrick merits a permanent managerial position at the club due to his successful early tenure.
Keane's opinion shifted after observing Carrick lead the Red Devils to impressive wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
While discussing this topic on The Overlap, he indicated his endorsement for Carrick to be offered the job full-time, commending his timely influence on the team's performance.
“I hope they offer it to him,” stated Keane. “I wish them well if they decide to do so in the summer. While I personally may not find it to be the best decision, good luck to him.”
Keane also emphasized his previous skepticism but acknowledged that Carrick appears to be the right option for the time being, saying, “I’ve stated my views. It seems he’s getting the job, and if it happens in the summer, I’ll just say, ‘Good luck to him.’”
Despite his support, Keane suggested that Manchester United could still consider hiring a more seasoned manager.
“I believe that there are definitely better managerial candidates than Carrick. Nonetheless, he is doing a commendable job. His timing is impeccable, and if he doesn’t secure the United role, these strong performances might lead him to another position, likely within the Premier League,” he remarked.
In conclusion, Keane reiterated that, while there may be more qualified managerial choices available, Carrick has stepped up effectively and deserves recognition for his current achievements.
