Sebastian Bach has publicly apologized for his involvement in a longstanding incident with actress Christina Applegate and actor Brad Pitt, an event Applegate recently highlighted in her memoir.
The incident traces back to the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, which Applegate attended alongside Pitt, but left the event with Bach, the lead singer of the rock band Skid Row. Reflecting on the resurfacing of this story, Bach expressed surprise at the renewed focus on the event following the release of Applegate's memoir.
"I was very surprised when that all hit," he remarked, noting that he was in the midst of a hectic tour lifestyle common among rock stars at the time.
Bach continued, "I was a single guy on tour, in a band, and I met a lot of girls. I apologize if I hurt her, if I hurt anybody." He added, "When you’re young, you get swept into the whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll, meeting a lot of people, and you better hold on tight."
Looking back at the incident, Bach underscored how much time has passed since then, comparing it to a roller coaster ride. "It’s like being on a roller coaster ... It was a long time ago. If I hurt anybody, I apologize for it," he stated.
In her memoir, You With the Sad Eyes, Applegate revisited the events of that night, sharing how she had spent most of the evening captivated by Bach's performance. She described him as a charming figure, capturing attention during his prime with long hair and a rockstar appeal.
Applegate also reflected on Pitt's career trajectory at that time, observing that he was not yet the international icon he has since become. "I hate to put it like this, but Brad back then was still making his way as an actor, and he wasn’t yet THE Brad Pitt, the man of so many people’s dreams," she recalled.
The actress admitted that her decision to leave with Bach was impulsive, resulting in Pitt having to drive her mother home, which understandably upset him. Following that night, the two did not communicate for several years.
In retrospect, Applegate recognized her youthful naivete and expressed regret for her decision, especially upon discovering that Bach had been in a committed relationship and had a young child at the time. Despite the complexities of that moment, the three celebrities have since moved forward in their careers and lives, though the incident remains a notable tale from the late 1980s involving early celebrity love triangles.
