Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, a former senator representing Kano South, has announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his subsequent joining of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The decision was formally conveyed in a resignation letter dated April 5, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in the Gaya Local Government area of Kano State. The lawmaker indicated that his move was effective immediately.

This development follows reports from March 30, 2026, that the APC's 2023 governorship candidate for Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, had also resigned his membership from the party. Gawuna later joined the ADC and held discussions with Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Senator Gaya explained that his decision to leave the APC was the result of "careful reflection and wide consultation." He believes that this move aligns with the best interests of his constituents and his personal principles.

He expressed his sincere appreciation to the APC for the opportunities provided and for the support and collaboration he received over the years. The Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman, Adam A. Adam, officially acknowledged receipt of the letter.

Gaya confirmed his new allegiance with the ADC, emphasizing that he maintains a positive relationship with both Kwankwaso and Gawuna. He also reflected on his eight years with the APC, highlighting his role as Kano South Senator and the contributions made during that period.

Furthermore, Gaya voiced concerns about the current state of the APC, stating that while it was founded on sound principles, it has since veered off course. He observed that the party was on the right track for eight years, but now insecurity has spread across the entire country, contrasting it with a period when insecurity was primarily confined to the northeast during Buhari’s administration.
