Senator Ali Ndume, a member of Nigeria's National Assembly, has voiced alarm regarding the precarious situation in Borno State and the larger North-East region, which he fears may succumb to Boko Haram insurgents without prompt intervention.

He has appealed to the federal government to enhance the Nigerian Army's capabilities by supplying sufficient arms and ammunition necessary to combat both insurgency and banditry effectively.

Following a visit to the communities of Ngoshe and Pulka alongside Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, Ndume expressed dismay over reports that military troops were dramatically outgunned by insurgents.

Senator Ndume stated, "I am urging the federal government to intensify its efforts in arming the Army with advanced weaponry and ammunition."

He also indicated that the lack of adequate ammunition led to a withdrawal of soldiers from Ngoshe and Pulka, pointing out that the troops managed to reclaim these areas only after reinforcements were dispatched.

Describing the devastation witnessed in the affected regions, Ndume remarked, "I have visited Ngoshe; the level of destruction is beyond description. It has been reduced to rubble, with only a small mosque remaining intact."

He praised Governor Zulum for his initiative in visiting the impacted communities and camps for displaced persons, noting that his presence has positively affected the morale of local residents.

Moreover, Ndume has urged the federal government to extend its support to the Borno State Government in the restoration of the destroyed areas and in providing assistance to those displaced by the conflict.

He emphasized the pressing need for federal government intervention, stating, "The locals are resilient and eager to return to their homes, and the government must aid them in this process."

Further, Ndume revealed plans to collaborate with colleagues in the National Assembly to propose a motion addressing the dire situation and expressed hope for a swift response from the federal authorities.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian Army in regaining control over the affected localities following initial challenges.
