Seplat Energy Empowers 623 Educators in Edo and Delta States

Seplat Energy, in partnership with NEPL, has successfully trained 623 teachers and education inspectors through its Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP) in Edo and Delta states.

The NEPL/Seplat Energy Joint Venture has successfully concluded its Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP), with 623 teachers and education inspectors graduating from the initiative. The trained individuals are from Edo and Delta states.

This programme demonstrates Seplat Energy’s dedication to enhancing teacher capabilities in both states.

The graduation ceremony took place at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub located in the capital of Edo State, Benin.

Since its inception in 2020, STEP has empowered a total of 1,957 educators, focusing on STEAM-oriented teaching methods, digital skills, leadership training, and mentorship to elevate the quality of education in the communities it serves.

During the event, Chioma Afe, the Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat Energy, encouraged the graduates to apply their enhanced skills and confidence in their classrooms.

Afe emphasized to the participants that teaching, inspiring, and transforming lives is not merely a phrase, but a significant duty they hold.

Governor Monday Okpebholor of Edo State, represented by Finance Commissioner Emmanuel Okoebor, affirmed that the programme supports the state's educational goals.

Mr. Oluwaseyi Orimoloye, speaking on behalf of NEPL’s Managing Director Nicolas Foucart, described STEP as a beneficial partnership contributing positively to society. He highlighted that the programme equips educators with essential skills in critical thinking, leadership, and modern learning technologies.

The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, represented by Mrs. Caroline Ikem, underscored the importance of maintaining high teacher standards and urged the graduates to disseminate their newly acquired knowledge, stating that the future of the nation relies on it.

British Council Country Director Donna McGowan, represented by Chikodi Onyemerela, stressed the need for ongoing professional development and increased focus on digital skills and contemporary teaching methods.

Acknowledgments also came from Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, Delta State’s Commissioner for Secondary Education, and Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, Edo State’s Commissioner for Education, who both praised the initiative and urged teachers to share their expertise within their educational institutions.

A key moment at the ceremony was the Teacher Innovation Contest, showcasing innovative ideas developed during the STEP training, with notable winners including Stephen Egbeburu for his Eco “Fueless” Generator, Matthew Nwokoye for Learning Solutions, and Faith Igbayo for Live FaceFoods.
