Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, has spoken out regarding a recent social media dispute involving philanthropist Mitchell "King Mitchy" Mukoro and activist Martins "VeryDarkMan (VDM)" Otse, in which he was implicated.
Reports indicate that the disagreement erupted following King Mitchy’s announcement on her Instagram that she had renovated a school in Delta State.
In her post, Mitchy shared that within just six days, she had restored a dilapidated school and also installed a borehole, emphasizing that her project illustrated the possibility of bringing about meaningful change through genuine intentions.
She claimed that financial support for her initiative was provided by Seyi as well as renowned music executive Don Jazzy.
This announcement led to an online altercation with VDM, who interpreted some of her statements as veiled attacks.
VDM accused Mitchy of being utilized as a political tool to improve the perception of Mr. Tinubu’s government and to bolster his campaign for reelection in 2027.
In a video shared on Instagram, VDM criticized Seyi's father's administration, asserting that it performed inadequately and that the Ministry of Education had virtually collapsed, leaving King Mitchy to undertake renovations.
In response, King Mitchy cautioned VDM, but the situation escalated when he alleged that both Seyi and King Mitchy had threatened his life.
The situation took a dramatic turn over the weekend, with both VDM and King Mitchy posting videos claiming to have taken a hypodermic injection, subsequently stating they had died on their social media channels.
Reacting to the ongoing controversy and allegations, Seyi Tinubu took to his Instagram Story to assert that the claims being circulated about him are entirely unfounded.
He mentioned that their only past encounter was in a public setting where he extended financial support to her NGO. "Over the past few days, my name has been unnaturally interjected into an online disagreement between VDM and King Mitchy. I must clarify that the allegations and implications regarding my involvement are untrue. I met Mitchy once in public while providing financial backing for her NGO activities, just as I have done for various young Nigerians and organizations striving to empower our populace,” he stated.
Seyi elaborated that a follow-up meeting was supposed to occur for him to receive updates on the impact of Mitchy’s NGO work, but it didn’t happen due to his illness. "There has been no private meeting, no clandestine arrangements, and absolutely no inappropriate conduct. What is alarming is that a conflict in which I have no engagement has been exploited to entangle my name in a narrative lacking any factual basis."
Seyi further claimed that VDM appears to have been seeking a means to discredit him and damage his reputation, emphasizing his refusal to be intimidated.
"For reasons best known to him, VDM seems to be on the lookout for any opportunity to attack and tarnish my reputation, seizing on this scenario to do so. Supporting charitable initiatives is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to aid their NGO should not be perceived as scandalous. Broadcasting misinformation does not make it true. I will not be coerced, nor will I dignify fantasy with fear. I have faced bullying before and know the trauma it can incite, which is why I stand firmly against it."
Moreover, Seyi condemned the prevalent conflict between King Mitchy and VDM, warning of the serious mental health consequences it has on individuals involved. He stressed that no dispute should escalate to harassment that threatens someone's safety or well-being.
He advocated that philanthropy and outreach should never be politicized or weaponized. "For over ten years, through my foundation and personal philanthropy, I have backed various initiatives in education, enterprise, health, youth empowerment, and more. This work is transparent, thoroughly documented, and service-oriented."
Seyi concluded, "To those intent on inciting controversy: Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We require constructive dialogues, not sensationalism fueled by conjecture. I wholly repudiate the allegations directed at me. I urge for de-escalation, restraint, and a return to truth and accountability. Decibels will fade; integrity and work will prevail." This sentiment reinforces his commitment to serving Nigerians, especially the youth, with unwavering integrity.
