Vice President Kashim Shettima has openly criticized opposition political parties, alleging they are heavily reliant on misinformation and political deceit.

While representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at an interfaith Ramadan and Lent breaking of fast event at the State House, Shettima asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in a more favorable political scenario than during the 2023 general elections.

His remarks particularly targeted the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he accused of promoting electronic transmission of votes while its membership registration system showed significant credibility problems.

Shettima claimed that the ADC's newly launched online registration portal was quickly inundated with fraudulent names and fictitious identities.

“The same individuals advocating for the electronic transmission of votes are the ones who opened a portal for member registration that became overwhelmed with fake names and identities,” stated the Vice President.

He further accused opposition figures of intensifying political discussions with misleading narratives, insisting that misinformation has become their main approach.

Referencing former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, he offered, “Truth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies.”

“Lies, lies, lies – this is what propels the opposition in our nation,” he remarked.

During his address to political and religious leaders at the gathering, Shettima urged supporters of the ruling APC to maintain unity as the political climate grows more intense.

“Excellencies, distinguished guests, with the political season approaching, we are all key players. We must promote our government and stand firmly behind our administration,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Shettima rejected allegations regarding undue pressure on governors switching allegiances to the APC, asserting that their actions were made of their own free will.

“No governor from Rivers, Delta, Kano, or any other state is being forced to join the APC. They are making this decision voluntarily because they recognize the advantages,” he concluded.
