The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended six individuals in connection to what is being termed a phony miracle scheme in the Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed by the command's spokesperson, SP Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
According to Jimoh, the suspects impersonated pastors and religious figures, staging fraudulent miracles to gain the trust and confidence of their victims.
The arrested individuals, namely Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola, were captured by the command’s tactical teams working alongside Community Safety Officers (CSOs) during a coordinated, intelligence-led operation.
The spokesperson elaborated that the suspects manipulated the faith and emotions of their victims, exploiting their vulnerabilities to commit fraud. They misled victims with promises of divine assistance for their financial issues, health problems, and other personal challenges.
“The Ondo State Police Command has achieved another significant success in its ongoing battle against fraud and other criminal activities across the state with the arrest of these suspects involved in a fake miracle scam in Idanre,” the statement asserted.
“On February 16, 2026, operatives from the Command’s Tactical Teams, in collaboration with CSOs, executed a well-planned operation following credible intelligence on the activities of a suspected fraud ring operating within Idanre and the surrounding areas.
“This operation resulted in the apprehension of six suspects alleged to have carried out fraudulent schemes aimed at unsuspecting members of the community.
“Initial investigations indicated that the suspects had posed as religious leaders, organizing fake miracles and spiritual interventions to win the trust of their victims.
“They exploited individuals' faith and emotions, luring them into believing that they could receive divine solutions to their problems, only to defraud them through various deceptive tactics.
“The suspects include: 1. Fadahunsi ‘m’, 2. Kolade ‘m’, 3. Tijani ‘m’, 4. Iyanuoluwa ‘m’, 5. Arijesulola ‘m’, and 6. Ademola ‘m’.
“During questioning, it was revealed that the suspects had organized their operation methodically, assigning specific roles to create a convincing guise of legitimacy.
“Further investigations are continuing to determine the actual number of victims, evaluate the total financial loss incurred, and identify any accomplices who might still be evading capture.
“All suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges upon the conclusion of investigations.
“The Command would like to take this opportunity to advise the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to criminals who misuse religion, spirituality, or fake miracle claims as a cover for their illegal activities.
“Residents are encouraged to scrutinize claims, remain cautious of suspicious financial requests, and report any dubious gatherings to the nearest police station.
“The Command is committed to eliminating criminal elements in Ondo State. Through ongoing intelligence gathering, community engagement, and strategic operations, it will continue to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
