The Benue State Police Command has successfully retrieved a motorcycle taken from a woman by her alleged lover.
The victim, a student of the College of Education in Katsina-Ala, reported that the suspect, identified as Mr. Aondoaseer Hyacinth Iortyom, purportedly deceived her by pretending to be in a romantic relationship. He made away with her motorcycle, gas cylinder, perfume, and cash.
The woman recounted that Aondoaseer had approached her at Ugbema Junction while she was on her way for a weekend trip, requesting a lift as he too was heading in the direction of Turan-Kwande.
After they arrived in Jato-Aka, where he was said to have become stranded, she helped him secure free lodging. The next day, she dropped him off at Ugbema Junction as he continued to Gboko while she returned to Katsina-Ala.
Their relationship reportedly developed further with the suspect visiting her at school. On the day of the incident, he accompanied her to campus to sign some documents.
While she was waiting, he allegedly requested her motorcycle keys to buy food for her. However, he diverted his path to her residence, seized her room key from its storage place, accessed her room, and took multiple items, including her motorcycle, gas cylinder, and personal belongings.
Following the theft, the suspect has not answered her phone calls, and attempts by others to contact him have also been unsuccessful as he reportedly rejected the calls.
Human rights advocate Elder Sughnen Yaaya confirmed the case on February 12, 2026, stating that the police have recovered the motorcycle and returned it to the student.
