The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the reigning champions, Nigeria, will commence their title defence in the upcoming 2026 Unity Cup against Zimbabwe.

The annual four-nation football tournament, which has been hosted in England since its establishment in 2002, is held in conjunction with the multicultural carnival in South London.

According to information from the NFF, Jamaica and India are the other participating nations in the competition, scheduled to run from May 26 to May 30.

The Super Eagles, who have emerged victorious in all previous editions of the Unity Cup, are slated to play Zimbabwe in the first semi-final clash on May 26. The subsequent semi-final on May 27 will see India face Jamaica, determining the opponent for the final.

All matches of the tournament are scheduled to be held at The Valley, the home stadium of Charlton Athletic Football Club.

President of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, expressed confidence in the team's preparedness to defend their championship under the guidance of head coach Eric Chelle.

"The Nigeria Football Federation is delighted for another opportunity for the Super Eagles to compete in the exciting and engaging Unity Cup Tournament," Gusau stated.

"As consecutive champions, the Super Eagles are aiming to secure the title once more this summer. However, they will approach matches against India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe with due respect. The tournament is anticipated to be highly competitive, a scenario where the Super Eagles often perform at their best."

Gusau further highlighted that the competition serves as a vital platform for the team to demonstrate its capabilities, particularly following their failure to qualify for the last three FIFA World Cups.
