Suspect Arrested for Murdering Landlady in Gombe

The Gombe State Police have taken into custody a man named Bello Abubakar in connection with the murder of his landlady, identified as Maryam Hassan, who was 38 years old.

The violent act transpired early on Tuesday, February 2, 2026, in the Kundulun Quarters area of Gombe metropolis.

In a statement released on February 4, the spokesperson for the command, SP Buhari Abdullahi, revealed that police officers promptly responded to reports from a bystander who discovered the victim with severe head injuries, lying motionless outside her home.

Initial inquiries led to the suspect's arrest, during which he admitted to committing the crime.

The PPRO stated that a pestle and a mobile phone belonging to the slain woman were recovered from the suspect's possession.

“The Gombe State Police Command wants to inform the public that on February 3, 2026, at approximately 6:00 AM, we received a report from a Good Samaritan concerning a woman named Maryam Hassan, 38, of Kundulun Quarters, who was found unresponsive in a pool of blood with notable head trauma at her residence's entrance,” the statement mentioned.

Once notified, detectives from the Gombe Division quickly visited the location. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead.

“Based on preliminary findings, the indicated suspect was detained for questioning.

“Investigations additionally led to the collection of several exhibits, including a pestle, a stool, a bucket, a shirt suspected to be stained with blood, and a mobile phone (Redmi 15C) believed to belong to the deceased, which was found in his possession.

“The suspect subsequently confessed to the murder. The investigation into the case is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and updates will be provided as they arise.

“The Command assures the public of its commitment to pursuing justice.

“CP Umar Ahmed Chuso of the Gombe State Command has urged the community to continue to aid law enforcement efforts by relaying timely and reliable information,” the statement concluded.
