Authorities in Ondo State have apprehended a 21-year-old suspect, Alabi Anthony, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a woman identified as Olaseni Veronica. The tragic incident reportedly took place last week in the Iboropa community, located within the Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Ondo State Police Command, issued by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, police investigations were prompted by credible intelligence regarding the case. The detectives successfully traced the victim’s missing phone, which played a crucial role in leading to Anthony’s arrest.
Jimoh stated, "The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting to having sexual relations with the victim and subsequently strangling her to death. This command denounces such a brutal and unconscionable act and assures the community that we will seek justice comprehensively."
He also mentioned that the case has been forwarded to the command's headquarters in Akure for enhanced investigation and legal processing.
The police have urged the public to quickly report any suspicious activities and to refrain from jumping to conclusions regarding unexpected or unnatural deaths, emphasizing that prompt reports significantly improve the efficacy of investigations.
