Two police officers lost their lives to an attack by suspected bandits at a checkpoint situated in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The assailants reportedly rushed to the police checkpoint on the Bakin Ruwa–Maje border road, where they opened fire on the officers stationed there.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the attackers came in large numbers and began shooting randomly, resulting in the death of the two officers on duty.
Following the attack, the armed individuals also set fire to the tent used by the police at the checkpoint.
A local resident mentioned that the attackers overwhelmed the officers before executing the assault and escaping from the scene.
The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident, stating that two officers were killed during the attack. He added, “They killed two of our officers and burnt down the checkpoint, but the police are on top of the situation. I will issue further details.”
This latest incident marks the third attack on security personnel in the Bakin Ruwa–Maje border area. Previously, in an earlier attack in the same location, one police officer was reported dead.
Moreover, a few months prior, five personnel from the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service were also killed in an assault along the border road in Bagudo Local Government Area.
