The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has announced the suspension of its chairman, Godwin Alaku Williams, due to purported activities against the party's interests.
Idris Ojoko, the publicity secretary of the party at the state level, released a statement indicating that the suspension was a result of a petition accusing Alaku of actions harmful to the cohesion and advancement of the ADC. Among the accusations are allegations that he failed to recognize the national leadership and did not incorporate coalition partners, in addition to reporting fellow party officials to security forces.
Ojoko noted that Alaku’s suspension would last for a period of 14 days while an inquiry is conducted by a disciplinary committee. Barrister Paul Magaji Ajeh has been appointed as the interim state chairman, with Umar Babayaro stepping in as the acting secretary. The committee overseeing the inquiry will be led by Barrister Hassan Yakubu.
In response to his suspension, Alaku has dismissed the action as invalid, questioning the legitimacy of those enacting it and asserting that they do not represent true members of the party. He accused the faction of seeking to destabilize the ADC ahead of the approaching 2027 elections, affirming his position as state chairman until the conclusion of his term at the end of the year.
