Residents of Utono in the Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State are experiencing heightened fear following a threatening letter issued by alleged terrorists. The group demands a payment of N100 million to allow them to come into the town for what they describe as 'preaching.'

This alarming communication was reportedly handed to community officials in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 19, 2026. In the letter, the terrorists admonished the locals not to dismiss this warning lightly.

"This is not a joke. We are coming to preach. You must pay us N100 million," the correspondence stated.

The letter further included a stark warning: "If you refuse, you will face the consequences and have no one to blame but yourselves. Even if you call soldiers, they cannot stop us."

Additionally, the group referenced a prior attack on the Woru community in the Kiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where numerous individuals were allegedly killed following a similar ignored warning.

A community member, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, shared that the letter has instilled panic among residents.

"People are scared. The mention of what happened in Woru has made the threat more frightening. Many families are already discussing safety plans in case anything happens," the source revealed.

Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, confirmed the legitimacy of the letter and informed a news outlet that the state government has initiated protective measures to prevent any attack.

"I just spoke with the Director of Security; he confirmed the information and said security has been deployed to the area," Idris stated.

He added, "The government, in collaboration with security agencies, has reinforced security in the vicinity, including air patrols.

"I assure you that the state government takes the security of its citizens seriously. The governor has been proactive on security issues, and this situation is no different."
