One individual tragically lost their life and three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident that occurred in the Epe region of Lagos on Sunday.
The incident involved a truck registered as AGL 764 XB, which was reportedly making a U-turn at a traffic signal close to the Aiyetoro Junction when the driver lost control and collided with a commercial tricycle.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the details of the accident.
He stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the truck, which was traveling from Ijebu-Ode towards Eleko, attempted a U-turn before veering off course and crashing into a stationary tricycle marked SMK 127 QR.
Bakare-Oki mentioned that this incident resulted in one fatality and left three passengers in the tricycle severely injured.
In response to the collision, LASTMA officials, along with personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and military members quickly arrived at the scene.
The rescue team worked effectively to retrieve the injured parties from the wreckage.
"The FRSC transported the deceased and those injured to the General Hospital in Epe for medical care and necessary procedures, while security agencies ensured order and assisted in restoring traffic flow," he explained.
Bakare-Oki called on the appropriate authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the crash's cause, emphasizing the importance of holding any responsible parties accountable.
