Kola Qossim, a Nigerian man, expressed his grief over the loss of his friend and former tenant, Aishat Gobir, who was allegedly murdered by her 15-year-old nephew in Kwara State.
Reports indicate that the incident took place in January 2026.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, on January 14, authorities received a distress call after Aishat was discovered at her home lying in a pool of blood.
Investigations revealed that Yusuf attacked his aunt while she was in the bath, utilizing various household items, including kitchen knives.
In a post on Facebook, Kola described Aishat as a woman exemplifying kindness and humility.
He recounted how, after Yusuf lost his mother when he was four years old, Aishat took him into her home, treating him as her own child.
Kola further noted that Yusuf confessed to having been secretly poisoning Aishat's food with Sniper, a potent insecticide, for an unspecified period.
In his heartfelt message, Kola wrote, “There are moments in life when words feel completely inadequate. This is one of those moments.”
He reflected on the pain of losing someone who had transitioned from a mere tenant to a cherished member of the family over the years.
Aishat, he noted, was humble and peaceful, and there was no sign indicating that her life might end in such a brutal manner.
On that tragic day, Aishat had moved into her new home, yet Kola maintained a close relationship with her.
At the time of the incident, she was at home bathing, while her husband—who was visiting from Lagos—had briefly left to greet friends.
Yusuf, who was living with Aishat since childhood, told her husband that he returned home to find her lying motionless in the bathroom.
Upon the husband's quick return, he encountered a devastating scene; Aishat had been violently stabbed, with her face severely disfigured.
The police were promptly alerted, and investigations were launched.
Kola mentioned that he personally transported Aishat's body to the mortuary, describing the experience as extremely painful.
Both Aishat's husband and Yusuf were initially taken into custody as investigations proceeded.
During that challenging time, Kola stayed at the police station with the family, grappling with disbelief as they entertained theories of armed robbery or a targeted attack.
For weeks, uncertainty loomed until a painful revelation emerged on March 6, when it was confirmed that Yusuf was indeed responsible for the tragic event. He admitted to the crime, claiming his motive was her repeated scoldings regarding his late returns from school.
This confession has left the community in shock and deep sorrow, particularly considering Aishat's compassionate nature. She provided a safe haven for a boy who had already endured significant loss.
The implications of her kindness ending in such a horrifying manner are difficult to comprehend.
Kola, who was close to the family, underscored the emotional turmoil as they come to terms with this loss. The incident has profoundly affected what was once a harmonious family, leaving scars that may never heal.
He emphasized the necessity for awareness regarding the complexities of human behavior and the crucial role of proper guidance for youth.
As they navigate this heartbreaking reality, Kola prayed for Aishat's forgiveness and eternal peace. He noted, “She became family, and her presence will forever live in our memories.”
He concluded with a prayer for strength for Aishat's children, husband, family, and friends to endure this painful loss. May her memory be cherished and her soul find rest.
