Nigerian troops from the Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), reported the elimination of at least 38 alleged ISWAP militants following an attack on a military base located in Mandaragirau village, within Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, during the early hours of Saturday.
A statement released on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, confirmed that the troops effectively countered a multi-pronged assault launched by the ISWAP terrorists on their Forward Operating Base (FOB).
Lt. Col. Uba described how the soldiers engaged the attackers through a meticulously orchestrated offensive-defensive strategy, which compelled the terrorists to retreat chaotically.
He also mentioned that the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI rendered close air support and provided intelligence surveillance reconnaissance (ISR) to improve targeted military responses.
The statement outlined that follow-up actions along the terrorists' retreat routes resulted in additional significant losses for the insurgents. "Approximately 38 terrorists were neutralized, with eight bodies already recovered in the immediate engagement area, and local intelligence confirming the presence of over 30 more bodies along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere route leading towards the Timbuktu Triangle," he stated.
The troops also confiscated several weapons during the operation, including seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, and four RPG bombs, without suffering any fatalities among their ranks. One MRAP vehicle sustained damage from an RPG round, though the injured personnel were quickly stabilized.
Furthermore, Uba indicated that ongoing operations are in progress along the Garin Mallum-Garin Gajere route to recover the fallen terrorists and strengthen the successes achieved thus far.
He commended the soldiers for their bravery and endurance and urged them to maintain the current operational momentum for the safety and security of the North East region.
