In a decisive move against criminal elements, Nigerian military forces have killed the son of notorious bandit leader Ado Alieru, along with an estimated 65 other bandits. The operation, code-named FANSAN YANMA, was conducted by troops in the Munhayi forest, located within the Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State.
Captain David Adewusi, spokesperson for Operation Fansan Yamma, confirmed the successful raid, which occurred last Saturday. While he could not immediately provide an exact figure for the bandit casualties, he emphasized that numerous terrorists were neutralized during the engagement. Captain Adewusi stated, “I cannot speak on the number of bandits neutralized during the operation, but I can assure that, many of them lost their lives during last Saturday’s attack. We will find out the number of casualties and will make it public soon”.
However, information shared by the Nigerian Armed Forces on their social media platforms indicated that at least 65 bandits were killed, prominently featuring Kachalla Iliya Sarki, son of the infamous bandit kingpin Ado Alieru. The military’s statement detailed that despite Ado Alieru's mobilization of around 300 fighters on motorcycles and reinforcements from other groups, the bandits were outmatched by superior military firepower and precise aerial strikes.
The engagement was not without sacrifice from the security forces, as seven vigilantes fighting alongside the troops lost their lives during the intense confrontation.
Authorities expressed confidence that the elimination of Iliya Sarki, who was reportedly a significant commander responsible for numerous kidnappings and cattle rustling activities across three states, could significantly disrupt the operational capacity and command structure of the bandit groups.
Reports indicate that Ado Alieru has fled the area, reportedly heading towards Yankuzu town. Troops are currently pursuing the remaining bandits with the objective of dismantling their operations entirely.
