The Police Command in Nasarawa State has taken into custody two individuals suspected of participating in the theft and vandalism of electric cables and poles within the region.
The arrested individuals are Chigozie Igbokwe, aged 41, and Emmanuel John, aged 45. They were intercepted along the Gitata-Gunduma Road while carrying stolen cables and tools allegedly utilized in their illicit activities.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa State, SP Ramhan Nansel, the arrests occurred in Lafia.
He stated that a patrol team from the Gitata Division made the arrests during a standard surveillance on March 6, 2026, around 5:40 am.
Nansel noted that upon apprehending the suspects, items recovered included the stolen cables, iron cutters, and a Hyundai Sonata vehicle that was believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
The Commissioner of Police for the state, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has instructed that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for thorough investigation and legal proceedings.
