The Benue State Police Command has reported the arrest of two of its own officers, accused of participating in an armed robbery, alongside the recovery of a stolen vehicle and weapons.
According to the police, their surveillance patrol team, acting on reliable information, stopped a red Toyota Corolla (2010 model) with the registration number NEG-35-AE, which had been previously stolen at gunpoint in Akwanga, as it was heading towards Keffi.
The police revealed that the suspects attempted to breach a police checkpoint at Angwan Lambu but were pursued and ultimately detained at a military checkpoint located near Uke.
Upon their arrest, items seized included one AK-47 rifle with an unrecorded breech number, three magazines containing 16 rounds of live ammunition, a black face mask, three mobile phones, and various personal items, according to the police statement.
The two suspects have been identified as Sergeant Shedrack Abednego, assigned to the STS (FID) in Abuja, and Sergeant John Ayuba, who is part of the CP Crack Squad at the FCT Command, as reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Investigations are currently underway to assess the full scope of their involvement and any potential connections to other criminal activities.
