Ugo Ugochukwu has clinched the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy, bringing home the title after a season characterized by steady performance, winning four out of 15 races and finishing 15 points ahead of Audi-supported Freddie Slater.

The driver, who was born in Nigeria and represents the United States, made a significant impression early in the season by achieving consecutive victories at Hampton Downs. This strong start proved critical as the season progressed. Ugochukwu consistently reached the podium, finishing outside the top 10 only twice throughout the year.

"It’s an amazing feeling to cross the finish line," Ugochukwu expressed following the New Zealand Grand Prix. "The race seemed longer than usual, but I am just pleased to have completed it, secured the championship, and moved past this challenge."

Reflecting on his successful season, he noted, "It has been a really great campaign. I am incredibly grateful to my entire team—they performed outstandingly throughout the year, and I am happier for their success than even my own."

Ugochukwu acknowledged that his early victories significantly influenced the overall season, saying, "Hampton Downs was an ideal start. It provided me with a solid advantage to build upon for the rest of the season. Ultimately, today was about accumulating the necessary points to bring the title home."

However, the title battle faced potential setbacks during the New Zealand Grand Prix when a suspension issue required him to pit late in qualifying. Despite M2 Competition managing to fix the car in time for him to qualify, a technical infringement regarding the suspension led to the 18-year-old starting 13th on the grid for the main race.

"It hasn’t been straightforward," Ugochukwu admitted. "We encountered some misfortune in Q1, which was disappointing. I would have loved to compete for the New Zealand Grand Prix title as well. Nevertheless, I had to set my sights on the broader objective and secure the championship, which we achieved."

This season marked Ugochukwu's first significant campaign after parting ways with McLaren due to extensive changes in their junior driver lineup. With the Oceania title now under his belt, he is shifting his attention to the FIA Formula 3 Championship, where he is preparing for his second season with Campos Racing.

Last year, he concluded the F3 season in 16th place overall with Prema, which included two podium finishes. His 2026 F3 season is set to kick off from March 6 to 8 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
