A heartbroken uncle expressed his devastation following the death of four of his nephews due to a bomb explosion in Maiduguri.
Last Monday, a blast at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) resulted in numerous casualties, claiming lives and injuring many others.
Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, reported that nearly 70 individuals were admitted for treatment, while 25, including the four children, tragically lost their lives in the incident.
Recounting his experience, Goni stated that he was in his room when he heard a loud explosion. His immediate concern was for the children, who normally went out around that time to receive free Ramadan food (alms).
After a roll call, seven children were absent. Eventually, three returned home, but the remaining four did not show up by midnight. In a panic, Goni rushed to the UMTH to check if they had been affected by the blast. Sadly, he discovered their lifeless bodies and they were laid to rest the next morning.
The deceased children, aged between 11 and 14, had been entrusted to Goni by his brother to study the Qur’an.
“I couldn't find sleep that night or even the following day. However, as a devoted believer, I accept that this was God's will and I cannot change it,” he reflected.
He urged other parents and individuals who have lost loved ones to view the situation as part of a divine plan.
“We must come to terms with this calamity in good faith; these children were under my care, making me the most affected. Nevertheless, we must leave everything in God's hands,” he concluded.
