A video documenting a father's unexpected collapse in the delivery room while his wife was giving birth to their second daughter has gained significant online attention. The event took place on April 18 at a hospital in Criciúma.
Maicon Pedroso was present for his wife, Mariane Felippe's, C-section procedure when he lost consciousness. Reports indicate that he was holding his wife's hand at the moment he fainted. Medical staff were observed assisting him, gently lowering him to the floor as he lay unconscious.
Maicon later shared with local media outlets that he had no recollection of the events immediately surrounding the baby's birth. The couple had arrived at the hospital in the early morning hours after Mariane's water broke, and the C-section was proceeding without apparent issues until the critical moment.
Birth photographers Patricia Vogel and Viviane Borges, who were documenting the event, expressed their surprise at the father's reaction. They stated that the atmosphere in the room was calm and that the medical team felt confident throughout the procedure.
"It was all happening in a light, calm way, with the medical team feeling very confident and the parents too," they recalled. "Then, at 8.24am, at the exact moment the baby was born, the father fainted."
Despite the unexpected fainting spell, Maicon quickly recovered and was able to join his daughter after the C-section concluded. The couple already has an older daughter, whose birth reportedly did not involve any complications.
The photographers, who have specialized in birth photography for five years and have documented over 1,500 births, noted that while unusual, witnessing a father faint during delivery is not entirely unprecedented.
"We've documented more than 1,500 births, and this is definitely a scene we've seen happen a few times before," they commented.
