Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a directive for the demolition of an illegal fence built on a green space in Guzape, Abuja.
The order came during a routine evaluation of ongoing projects throughout the city on Monday. Wike remarked that the plot had been allocated for "Park and Recreation" but had been illicitly transformed for residential purposes without governmental approval.
Along with the demolition of the fence, Wike noted that allocation of the land would be annulled. He underscored the commitment of the FCT Administration (FCTA) to rigorously uphold planning regulations in accordance with the Abuja Master Plan.
He cautioned that the administration would no longer accept intentional breaches of land-use permissions, expressing concern that many developers disregard regulations, assuming they may rectify their infractions under a different administration. (NAN)
"Individuals believe that the government will change and they can proceed with their actions. We will not permit that to happen. It is irrelevant who is involved; we will act appropriately," Wike emphasized. "This area was designated for Park and Recreation, not for estate construction. What you see occurring is the transformation of it into an estate, which is a blatant violation."
Furthermore, he indicated that certain developers exploit bureaucratic gaps or collude with insiders in government agencies to secure misleading approvals. Although some civil servants might be implicated, Wike affirmed that this would not prevent the administration from "acting correctly."
Regarding the projects he inspected, the Minister articulated that the aim was to evaluate the status of major initiatives meant to be inaugurated in celebration of President Bola Tinubu's third year in office. (NAN)
