Authorities have apprehended a woman suspected of beheading her new boyfriend after allegedly stabbing him to death in her home. Paula Ellen Neves da Silva, aged 24, was arrested when investigators discovered Daniel dos Santos' head placed inside a rucksack in her living room, while his decapitated body was located in her bathroom.
The situation unfolded after Paula's mother alerted the police, prompted by her daughter’s phone calls to family members and her ex-husband – who is the father of her two small children – where she confessed to the act. Reports indicate that Paula sent photos and videos to her relatives as evidence of her crime.
According to the woman, she had been in a relationship with Daniel for approximately two months. She alleged that the attack was triggered after she observed him opening a nappy belonging to her two-year-old son, fearing that he intended to harm the child. Paula stated she was pretending to be asleep during the incident but claimed she sustained injuries when Daniel attempted to defend himself.
The shocking event is said to have occurred around 6 AM on Sunday, March 29, in Itaquaquecetuba, on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The couple had reportedly been consuming alcohol and using drugs with a friend prior to the tragic incident.
Detectives revealed that the suspect had attempted to clean both the murder weapon and the crime scene before they arrived. Municipal public safety officials confirmed the arrest of the woman on murder suspicion on Sunday morning in a neighborhood known as Chacara Cuiaba.
A statement from authorities detailed that upon arrival, military police found indications that she stabbed the victim with a knife. Paula confessed to committing the crime, and the case is being processed at the local police station. Police confirmed that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds in addition to decapitation.
