Law enforcement officials have apprehended a woman believed to be part of a drugging and theft ring that targets unsuspecting individuals in Nairobi and its surroundings.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released a statement on Sunday, March 29, 2026, indicating that the arrest was the result of an operation guided by intelligence following a report filed at the Embakasi Police Station.

"The complainant was socializing at an establishment in Nairobi when he was approached by an unidentified female, who hugged him shortly after he finished a game of pool," the statement outlined.

Police arrest suspect in a drugging and robbery scheme

"He soon began to feel dizzy and decided to leave the venue accompanied by her, only to later lose consciousness.

Suspected stolen property recovered by police

"Upon regaining consciousness, the victim realized that various personal items had been stolen from his residence, including two laptops (an HP and a Lenovo), a Samsung S22 smartphone, cash totaling Ksh 168,000, and jewellery worth Ksh 50,000.

More items retrieved from the suspect's apartment

"Acting on forensic information, detectives tracked the suspect to Kihunguro in Ruiru, where they arrested Jane Wangare Ndungu at Havilla Apartments.

Detectives inspecting the evidence collected

"A search of her apartment uncovered a significant number of suspected stolen goods, such as 40 different mobile phones, 14 laptops, and an iPad with a keyboard, among other items that were positively identified as belonging to the victim.

Overview of the crime scene and recovered items

"Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused is part of an organized crime group that uses a drug, commonly referred to as 'mchele,' to incapacitate victims.

"This group takes advantage of the incapacitation to execute thefts and gather sensitive financial details, contributing to the trade of stolen electronics in the black market.

"The suspect is currently detained at Embakasi Police Station as efforts intensify to dismantle the larger network responsible for these crimes.

"The DCI has reiterated its commitment to protecting the public against evolving criminal activities.

"Citizens are encouraged to stay alert in social settings and to swiftly report any suspicious activities to local authorities or through established reporting channels.
