Woman Faces Court for Allegedly Severing Man’s Finger

Mariam Yusuf, a 37-year-old resident of Ogun State, has been charged with assault for allegedly biting off a man's finger. During her court appearance, she pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A 37-year-old woman named Mariam Yusuf was presented before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Monday, facing accusations of biting off a man's finger.

Yusuf, whose residence was not disclosed, entered a not guilty plea regarding the assault charge.

The prosecution, represented by ASP E.O. Adaraloye, informed the court that the allegedly inflicted injury occurred around 7:45 PM on February 23, at No. 1 Isokan Olorunsogo Street, Iloye, Ota.

According to Adaraloye, the defendant bit off the middle finger of Ezekiel Olatunji, resulting in permanent damage.

He further asserted that this act violated Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, set bail for the accused at N300,000, mandating that she must provide one surety in a similar amount.

Fadairo specified that the surety must be a resident within the jurisdiction of the court and have verifiable employment, inclusive of evidence of tax payments to the Ogun State Government.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 12.
