A woman in South Korea has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after assaulting her husband in a café, resulting in the severing of his genitals, an act deemed premeditated by prosecutors who cited her suspicions of infidelity.

The incident took place in August 2024 at a coffee shop located in the Hwado- myeon area of Ganghwa Island. According to court documents, the 50-year-old victim was drinking alone and had fallen asleep when the assault occurred.

The attacker, identified only as A, aged 58, was found guilty of committing serious bodily harm. The court was informed that she had enlisted assistance from her 40-year-old son-in-law, referred to as B, who entered the café and restrained the victim with ropes and industrial tape.

A South Korean woman was sentenced for assaulting her husband over infidelity suspicions.

Once the man was incapacitated, A began to stab him repeatedly before using a sharp tool to sever his genitals. She subsequently disposed of the severed body part by flushing it down the toilet of the café, effectively preventing any chance of surgical reattachment, as per the court ruling.

Emergency responders discovered the victim and transported him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and survived; however, the court noted he sustained lasting physical and psychological repercussions from the violent incident.

Despite the brutality of the crime, the victim sought a settlement with A and requested the court to consider leniency in sentencing, a plea that the court acknowledged.

As a result, A received a seven-year prison term, while her son-in-law was sentenced to four years for his involvement in restraining the victim. Both sentences were issued by the Incheon District Court in January.

Police revealed to the court that the attack had been premeditated, stemming from A's belief in her husband's unfaithfulness. Investigators indicated that she had also recruited her daughter to help monitor the husband’s whereabouts.

In a related incident, the couple’s daughter was penalized separately with a fine of 3 million won (approximately £1,514) for hiring an unlicensed private investigator to surveil her father through GPS tracking.
