A student from the Yaba College of Technology, known as Balogun, has tragically lost his life after being shot by suspected cultists in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

The incident took place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as the victim was reportedly waiting outside the institution’s gates when he was attacked by assailants who are yet to be identified.

Witnesses reported that the gunfire incited panic among students, leading many to flee in different directions as the assailants carried out their attack.

According to a source close to the school, who chose to remain anonymous, it appears that this incident could involve a case of mistaken identity.

"Balogun and his companion were merely waiting for a tricycle when a group of armed individuals entered the area and shot him at close range," the source stated.

There are conflicting reports regarding the identity of the attackers; some witnesses claimed that one of the attackers was dressed in military camouflage, while others suggested they were part of the Eiye Confraternity. Balogun was allegedly mistaken for a member of the Aiye Confraternity, yet witnesses assert he was not affiliated with any cult group.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the shooting to a local news outlet. She reported that the remains of the deceased student have been transferred to the morgue and that a thorough investigation is being conducted into the matter.

"We have received a report concerning the shooting and investigations have already commenced to uncover the details surrounding the incident," Adebisi affirmed.
