An inmate known as Blessing Sunday at the Potiskum Correctional Centre in Yobe State has welcomed a baby boy. The birth comes after allegations that she was impregnated by a correctional officer named Sani Saleh-Bodejo.

According to sources revealing the details to Daily Nigerian, Blessing gave birth at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

"Today (Sunday), Blessing Sunday has delivered a healthy baby boy. Both she and the newborn are doing well at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital," the source confirmed.

It has been reported that Saleh-Bodejo sexually assaulted and impregnated Blessing with the complicity of several female colleagues. The officer, an Assistant Superintendent of the Nigerian Correctional Service and yardmaster of the facility, allegedly accessed the inmates' quarters during the late- night hours.

Furthermore, Saleh-Bodejo is also accused of assaulting another inmate named Salma.

Following these grave allegations, the Nigerian Correctional Service acknowledged the situation and subsequently suspended Saleh-Bodejo along with other officers linked to the matter.

In December, a spokesperson for the service, J. N. Osuji, indicated that affected personnel were suspended due to "unprofessional conduct with inmates." Queries and charge sheets were issued to others for assessments of their involvement.

The statement revealed that Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, had endorsed the suspensions after a preliminary investigation report was reviewed.

He stressed the board's commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct within its ranks, promising that any officer found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary actions.

"The Nigerian Correctional Service imposes a strict zero-tolerance policy against any misconduct, carelessness, rights violations, or inappropriate relationships between staff and inmates. Any officer found guilty will encounter suitable disciplinary actions and potential legal consequences in accordance with established regulations," the statement concluded.
