A 12-year-old boy in Monroe, United States, caught the attention of police officers when he was driving himself to school after missing his bus.
As reported by the New York Post, law enforcement officials pulled over an SUV around 8:30 a.m. due to suspicious activity and found that the vehicle displayed a fake license plate.
To their surprise, officers discovered that a child was behind the steering wheel during the traffic stop.
When asked about the situation, the boy explained to the police that he had missed his school bus and chose to drive to school by himself instead.
A school resource officer was called to the scene and ensured he arrived safely at his school.
Following this incident, police have advised parents to keep their car keys secured and prevent children from accessing vehicles unsupervised, emphasizing the dangers of allowing an unlicensed minor to operate a vehicle.
Authorities also indicated that they have made a referral to social services while they continue to liaise with the boy's family to ensure his safety and well-being.
