The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has presented Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State with the award for Infrastructure Governor of the Year, celebrating his administration's substantial efforts in advancing the Urban Renewal project across the state.

Governor Lawal accepted the accolade at the second edition of the BON awards ceremony, which took place at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to a statement released by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, BON recognized Zamfara state for its remarkable and transformative infrastructure achievements, extending its appreciation for excellence beyond the broadcasting sector.

The same event also honored other notable Nigerians, including Governors Bassey Otu of Cross River and Uba Sani of Kaduna. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, along with media personalities like John Momoh, Shyngle Wigwe, Abubakar Jijiwa, and Sa’a Ibrahim, were also recipients of awards at the 2026 Nigeria Broadcasting Awards.

The statement further detailed that BON, established in 1973 as the apex body for public and private broadcasters in Nigeria, aims to champion the interests of the broadcasting industry and uphold high standards in media operations.

BON's selection process involved a rigorous, months-long evaluation designed to identify and reward professional excellence while elevating media practices throughout Nigeria.

The Awards Selection Committee was chaired by Dr. Danladi Bako, a former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). The panel comprised industry veterans and representatives from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and the NBC.

In its citation, the selection committee highlighted several key reasons for bestowing the award upon Governor Dauda Lawal, emphasizing his notable progress across various sectors, particularly his success in transforming Gusau into a modern state capital.

Zamfara has experienced significant developmental milestones under Governor Dauda Lawal's leadership, including the historic construction of a state-of- the-art International Airport.

Beyond urban renewal initiatives and the construction and equipping of General Hospitals, Governor Lawal's administration has overseen the building, refurbishment, and equipping of over 800 schools across all 14 local government areas of the state.

This recognition from Nigeria's foremost broadcasting authority is expected to further motivate the governor in his commitment to serving and rebuilding Zamfara State.
