The Police Service Commission (PSC) has sanctioned the advancement of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the ranks of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) after they successfully participated in written examinations and oral interviews.
This decision was made at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters located in Abuja, where the evaluations were recently conducted.
The list of the officers who passed has already been submitted to the Inspector-General of Police for immediate action.
As per a statement from Torty Njoku Kalu, the Commission's Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, the newly appointed AIGs include Emmanuel Ado Christopher, the former CP of Yobe State; Joseph Eribo, who previously served as CP of Ekiti State; Dantawaye Miller, the former CP of the Federal Capital Territory; and Uche Ifeanyi Henry, PhD, who is the Director of the Nigeria Police Force's National Cyber Crime Centre.
Additionally, other officers promoted consist of Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo, ex-CP of Ogun State; Muhammad Dahiru, ex-CP of Jigawa State; Dankombo Morris, ex-CP of Adamawa State; Bello Shehu, ex-CP of Katsina State; Ibrahim B. Maikaba, ex-CP of Zamfara State; Ahmed Musa, ex-CP of Sokoto State; Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, ex-CP of Lagos State; Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, ex-CP of the Anti-Fraud unit at FCID Annex Lagos; and Haruna Olufemi, ex-CP of Oyo State.
In this same promotion round, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have also been elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The DCPs who were promoted include Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Commander of NIWA Lokoja; Abbas Sule, DC of DFA INTERPOL; Ojugbele E. Adebola, DC of OPS Zone 2 Lagos; Preye Raymond Egbetokun, DC of DFA Akwa Ibom Command; and Kayode Uthman Magaji, tasked with Community Policing and Research at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Further promotions included Adebisi Bola Lateef, DC of DFA Osun Command; Markus Ishaku Basiran, DC of DFA Zone 6 Calabar; Silas Bamidele Aremu, DD Admin DoLS; Sylvester Onyie Uzoefuna, DC of DOPS Cross River Command; and Magaji Ismaila, DC of Projects at Force Headquarters Abuja.
In total, Theodore Chukwuemeka Obasi, DC Maritime Lagos; Sarah Idowu Ehindero, DC of DFA Ogun State Command; Hayatu ShaffaHassan, DC SID Abia State Command; Mohammed Babakura, DC Inspectorate DTD; Danjuma I. Yahaya, DC of DOPS Zone 12 Bauchi; and Rebecca Uchenna Okereke, Band Master were also among those promoted.
On a broader scale, 19 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), while 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The Chairman of the PSC, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated all promoted officers, highlighting the promotions as a testament to their merit, dedication, and superior performance in their duties.
He urged the newly elevated officers to validate their promotions through heightened dedication to effective policing and national security.
Argungu emphasized that the promotion processes within the Commission are founded on principles of transparency and merit, indicating that those who do not pass the exams are expected to retake them, and that failing three consecutive times may lead to retirement in accordance with the Public Service Rules.
He expressed gratitude to the members of the PSC board, which includes retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje; retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu; and the Commission's Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, for their dedication to successfully conducting the promotion process.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force through a clear and thorough promotion procedure.
