The Plateau State Government has announced a further relaxation of the curfew imposed on Jos North Local Government Area, citing an observable return to calm after recent incidents in Angwan Rukuba.
According to Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, the updated curfew arrangement commences on April 8, 2026. Under the new directive, residents will be permitted to move freely between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The curfew will now be in effect from 6:00 p.m. each evening until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
Citizens have been encouraged to conduct their lawful activities within the designated hours and to adhere strictly to the imposed curfew restrictions.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has mandated security agencies to ensure the complete enforcement of this new directive. The primary objective is to protect lives and property and to maintain the hard-won peace in the affected area. Authorities have also urged residents to remain indoors during curfew hours, cooperate fully with security personnel, and share any useful intelligence that could aid ongoing security operations.
The curfew was originally instituted in response to deadly attacks in various parts of Jos North, notably in Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in significant loss of life. In recent times, security challenges have escalated in other areas of Plateau State, including Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom.
Despite the easing of movement restrictions, officials indicate that the general situation remains stable, albeit with lingering tension. Security forces are continuing heightened patrols and surveillance across the communities affected by the unrest.
The current easing follows an earlier reduction of the initial 48-hour total lockdown that was imposed after the Angwan Rukuba attacks, which claimed 33 lives.
