18-Year-Old Sentenced to Six Months for Stealing Pregnant Goat in Kaduna

A customary court in Kafanchan has sentenced Gado Adamu, an 18-year-old, to six months in prison for stealing a pregnant goat. He also faced charges related to unlawful possession of a firearm.

A customary court located in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has sentenced an 18-year-old named Gado Adamu to six months in prison for stealing a pregnant goat.

Adamu was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm, in violation of sections 345 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penalty Code Law.

Upon hearing the charges against him, Adamu admitted his guilt and pleaded for mercy.

The presiding judge, Patience Baryat, delivered the ruling on March 18, sentencing Adamu to a three-month prison term for the possession of an unlicensed weapon.

However, the judge granted him the option to pay a fine of N20,000.

Additionally, Ms. Baryat sentenced him to an additional two months’ imprisonment or a N10,000 fine for the theft of the goat.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Favour Solomon, informed the court that the incident was reported to the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on February 2.

Solomon stated that Adamu was caught in Zankan village with the pregnant goat, valued at N160,000.

Moreover, he noted that Adamu was apprehended while carrying a dane gun without the necessary license.

In a related development, the Niger State Police Command has apprehended one Abubakar Lawal, a resident of Dzukogi Esso area in Bida, for stealing a goat.

According to police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, Lawal was arrested on March 3, 2026, while in possession of the goat. Upon interrogation, he confessed that the goat belonged to an individual near the sawmill.

He admitted to stealing the goat with the intention of selling it.
