Keion White, a defensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers, was shot outside a nightclub shortly after Super Bowl LX.
The San Francisco Police Department has commenced an investigation into the shooting incident.
According to a statement released by the SFPD, "A preliminary investigation revealed that a verbal confrontation occurred between two groups inside a venue. The victim was struck when gunfire was unleashed by an unidentified individual."
The 49ers organization issued a statement regarding the situation:
"Keion White was targeted in a shooting and suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle early this morning in San Francisco. He is presently undergoing surgery at a medical facility. Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available."
In a message posted on X, Mayor of San Francisco, Daniel Lurie, expressed:
"Any act of violence within our city is intolerable, and I am wishing for a swift recovery for Keion. I have communicated with both the SFPD and the leadership of the 49ers; we are all thankful for the prompt action of our SFPD officers. I will continue to collaborate with law enforcement to maintain the safety of our neighborhoods and residents."
White entered the NFL in 2023 after being drafted by the New England Patriots and was traded to the 49ers in 2025.
This incident marks the second shooting involving a 49ers player in the last year and a half, following the case of wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who was shot in the chest during a robbery in Union Square.
