Harry Kane was instrumental in Bayern Munich's 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, contributing a goal and an assist in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The highly anticipated match saw the visiting German side outplay and dominate their Spanish counterparts for significant periods, with the English striker proving decisive.
Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock. Manuel Neuer made saves to deny Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe, while Bayern's Serge Gnabry missed several chances against a shaky Real Madrid defence.
The deadlock was finally broken four minutes before halftime when Luis Diaz converted from a Kane through ball into the bottom corner, giving Bayern a 1-0 lead at the interval.
Bayern Munich extended their advantage just a minute into the second half. Following an interception in midfield, they found Kane, who fired a low shot past Andriy Lunin from the edge of the penalty area to make it 2-0.
Real Madrid showed improvement and created further chances. However, it was Mbappe who eventually pulled a goal back in the 74th minute, tapping in Trent Alexander-Arnold's low cross at the far post to narrow the deficit to 2-1.
Despite late efforts, Real Madrid could not find an equalizer. Bayern also had chances on the counter-attack to increase their lead but failed to convert. The Bavarian club ultimately secured a 2-1 advantage heading into the second leg in Germany.
In another Champions League fixture, Arsenal secured a 1-0 away win against Sporting Lisbon thanks to Kai Havertz's composed finish in the 91st minute, giving the Gunners a slight edge going into the return leg in London.
