Leading athletes from Africa will commence their quest for the sought-after spots at the 2026 ITTF World Cup, set to be held in Macao, China. The competition will run from February 7 to 9 at the renowned Al-Nasr Sports Club in Benghazi, Libya.
The ITTF Africa Cup aims to unite elite table tennis players from various countries across the continent as they strive for podium finishes and a chance to compete on the global stage.
With high stakes at play, the top four finishers in both the men's and women's singles categories will automatically secure their places for the upcoming World Cup next month in Macao.
Wahid Enitan Oshodi, the President of ITTF Africa, praised the Libyan Table Tennis Federation (LTTF) for its dedication to organizing the tournament.
He emphasized the rich cultural experience this event offers, noting that Libya’s hospitality in welcoming athletes, officials, and fans from across Africa enhances the significance of the gathering.
"Events like this highlight both our diversity and togetherness, embodying the essence of the table tennis community," Oshodi stated.
This year’s tournament is especially significant as the sport nears its 100-year anniversary. Oshodi pointed to the 2026 World Team Championships in London as a landmark event marking a century of advancements in the sport.
"The ITTF Africa Cup serves as an essential platform for our athletes and teams to refine their skills, boost competitive spirit, and promote the essence of table tennis throughout the continent," he remarked.
